Approximately 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Police say they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then located numerous other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials state preliminary tests show the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; investigators are not yet informed of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they stated.
City officials said they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the community for information.
A high-ranking political figure commented the vandalism left him without words and required to be resolved promptly.
"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, referring to the killing of nine victims by a gunman aiming at people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
